The Unsung Heroes
With all the deserved recognition of our health providers and essential service personnel, it's easy to overlook the role of the teachers and support staff in schools over the last two years. Our HSE staff along with other staff across the district and province have kept schools open and students learning. They have flexed and changed their routines and practice so students can come to school safely and learn. I would like to pay a special thank you to our HSE Staff. They have been outstanding professionals during these pandemic times. During times of floods, partial closures, and extended illness we have persevered and carried on. The secret is that we have taken care of each other, we've listened, shared, and supported each other in these times. We have done what we needed to do to keep the focus on children and support our community. Teaching is a professional of giving and putting others first. The pay is never enough for the hours and effort that teachers put in. The reward is the smile, gift, or thank you from the child.
As we move along the year I would encourage you to reach out to the staff and thank them for their efforts in keeping the school open. It has not been easy and of all people, they will quietly and humbly keep on doing what is best for children without a second thought. That's why they work in a school.
