Jump Rope for Heart 2022

Back to the normal business of school life. HSE hosted its annual Jump Rope for Heart event last week. Money raised by the students and families goes directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thank you to all who have made a donation so far. The students had an wonderful day full of skipping, running, and playing. A special thank you goes out to our PE team and Division 2 Grade 5 for helping with the stations. Overall it was another great event.

Celebrating Our 2022 Retirees

As the 2021-22 school year comes to a close, we are congratulating our retirees from the Abbotsford School District. This year, we will see 55 employees retire from our schools and district sites. They have served as teachers, maintenance staff, custodians, clerical, youth workers and principals. And each and every day, they have made a difference in the lives of our students.

HSE Intermediate Track Meet

It was a pleasure to be part of the Track Meet this past week. Our students were full of enthusiasm and team spirit! It was the first time in a couple of years, so it marked the "first track meet" for our students. Thanks to the intermediate staff/EA's and non-enrolling staff for their contributions on that day. It was a successful day! Thank you to all the teachers and parents who made this day a success for our students.

One Year Later: A Moment of Silence

This week marks the first anniversary of the announcement of the discovery of over 215 children’s remains at Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, where the former Kamloops Residential School was located. Since then, Indigenous investigations across the country have found evidence of more than 1,800 confirmed unmarked graves at former residential school sites, with thousands more anticipated to be discovered in the months and years ahead.

A few students who participated, accompanied by their school administrators, talked to trustees about their experiences playing for a live audience for the first time in over two years.

Gr 5 Salmon Project

Every year for many, Mr. Batt's grade 5 class has hosted the Salmon Enhancement Project. In the Winter the eggs arrive from the hatchery. The students then monitor the water and temperature for the hatching. This takes several weeks and lots of patience. After the eggs have hatched the salmon continue to be reared and looked after in the tank in the classroom. When they reach a certain size and age the students take a field trip to Bateman Park where they are released.

District celebrates 2022 Indigenous Role Models (PHOTOS)

The Abbotsford School District and the Mamel’awt Indigenous Education Centre are proud to announce the 2022 Indigenous Role Models. 

The Indigenous Education Advisory Committee reviewed applications submitted this fall by several remarkable grade 12 Indigenous students from secondary schools throughout the district. These students are acknowledged for connecting to their culture, leadership, and service in their schools and communities, and for their aspirations towards future goals.

Naming consultation for Sports Fields commences

The Abbotsford School District is now accepting submissions from the public for the naming of sports fields located between Colleen & Gordie Howe Middle School and W.J. Mouat Secondary School. At a winter Public Board meeting, Trustees requested that the Secretary-Treasurer commence the process of naming the two sports fields.
